    The most successful brands

The most successful brands of the future will be the ones that enable people to talk about them. Note that I didn’t say “talk in a positive way”. That part you can only influence by putting out a high quality product, and having equally good customer service. Once you have those two things in place (and if you don’t, sorry, I can’t help you) the key part is to engage with your audience and help them spread the word, which they will gladly do.

Ikea, for example, recently put photos of their furniture on Facebook and invited people to tag the sofas, tables and lamp shades with their own name. The first one to tag a piece of furniture got to take it home for free. Word spread quickly around Facebook and soon people were tagging, sharing and linking to the images left and right.

Is this real, authentic interaction with their audience? Okay, maybe this example is more on the gimmicky side. But at least it’s a step in the right direction. Ikea engaged with their (potential) audience by making use of Facebook’s built in features in a very creative way.

Oh, and by the way, to add to the exposure, somebody also made a video about it.
