Capturing Time - A one of a kind time lapse photography experience.

Around you are beautiful rock formations, caves, and white sand dunes. Looking to the ocean, a whale breaches as your camera catches the last rays of the sun dipping below the horizon. You're in Gansbaai, South Africa, the perfect location to capture awesome time lapse shots.

This is not a traditional workshop, it's an experience. Get on the fast track to creating high quality time lapse photographs. Even if you're an experienced time lapse photographer you will learn some advanced techniques to bring your films to a whole new level.

Your guide is Armand Dijcks, who will give you a lot of personal attention because the group size is strictly limited to a maximum of 6 participants.

Learn how to capture moving landscapes.

During this workshop you’ll learn everything about how to set up the perfect time lapse shot and how to get the most out of your gear. You'll also master the intricacies of the post-production workflow, and learn about the pros and cons of different ways of post-processing.

And that's just the start. The main focus of this workshop is on how to take your shots from average to awesome. You’ll be amazed at how much more you can get out of your shots. Along the way you'll discover new time lapse techniques, such as long exposure time lapse (see the video on the right for an example). All of this will be explained and demonstrated in an easy-to-understand way.

Topics that will be covered include:

Avoiding and fixing flicker, creating smooth looking images and avoiding the typical time lapse look, bending time (time remapping), exposure ramping, bracketing, different workflows, RAW processing, motion and stabilization (in-camera and in post), walk/drive lapse, color grading, layering and masking, using composite modes, long exposure time lapse, simulating camera moves in post: zooming, panning, and push-pull moves.

    Equipment to bring with you:

    • DSLR camera and lens(es)
    • Timer remote (Note: most Nikon models have a built-in timer)
    • Tripod or Gorillapod
    • Optional: polarizer / ND filters (bring them if you have them)
    • Optional: laptop, if you want to do post-processing on location

The Location - Luxury by nature.

The workshop sessions will take place at Sea Star Lodge, a modern five star guest house situated on Walker Bay facing the Atlantic Ocean. The guest house is a scenic 2 hour drive from Cape Town and is conveniently located near many interesting shooting locations. If you book your accommodation at Sea Star Lodge as well, mention that you are participating in this workshop to get a 25% discount off the regular room rates. For more impressions of Sea Star Lodge and its surroundings, check out these stories on HDtravelmag.com.

If you have some extra time, consider staying a little longer. Gansbaai is surrounded by one of the wine regions of the Western Cape, and there are lots of great wineries you can visit for a tasting. If you get a chance, also consider a whale watching trip. The whales visit Gansbaai every year, and in October you're guaranteed to spot them on a daily basis. In fact, you can easily see them from the guest house. If you're looking for a more adrenaline-induced adventure, go shark cage diving, a once in a lifetime experience that can be had only in a few places in the world.

    Price for this 3-day experience: € 1295* - Limited to 6 participants.

*Workshop only. Excludes accomodation and other expenses.
